Castro Valley has some of the warmest and least foggy weather of the San Francisco Bay area. Life is laid back and homey in the unincorporated city. With great freeway access Castro Valley and cozy strip malls Castro Valley is an easy place to shop and live. With many nearby parks and recreational areas Castro Valley also features a fine public school system.
Castro Valley is named after the former lieutenant of the militia at the Pueblo of San Jose. For his service Don Castro was given 28,00 acres that covers the cities of San Leandro, Hayward and Castro Valley. In the middle of the 19th century the land was used for cattle land and sheep. Don Castro ended up gambling away the property and ended up selling what was left and returned to Chili around 1864. During the late 1800’s much of the land was used to supply lumber to the region and as many as 9 saw mills operated in the area during Castro Valley’s heyday.
Interstate 580 serves transportation to and from Castro Valley and highway 238 connects the 580 to the 880 to the west of Castro Valley. The Bay Area Rapid Transit system (BART) provides easy access to bay Area cities with one station located directly in the middle of 580.

Recreation can be found just North of Castro Valley at the Chabot Regional Park that offers swimming, horseback riding boating, hiking and biking. The Cull Canyon Regional Recreation area offers swimming with a nice sandy beach.
